Elopement & Courthouse Wedding Photography & Videography

Elopement and city hall wedding photography and video: the ceremony, rings, signing and portraits nearby. Open hourly pricing, our own crews.

Your elopements & courthouse weddings celebration photographed and filmed with care

A courthouse wedding or elopement is small by design, but it is still your wedding day. MacroSnaps photographers and videographers cover city hall ceremonies, courthouse weddings and intimate elopements with just the two of you or a handful of guests. We photograph the ceremony, the vows and rings, the signing of the marriage license and the first moments as a married couple, then take time for relaxed portraits nearby.

Courthouse ceremonies move quickly, often ten minutes or less, and many offices have their own rules about where photographers can stand. We plan around that with you: arriving early for photos of the two of you before your appointment, staying close during the ceremony, and walking to a nearby park, street or landmark afterward. For elopements in a park, on a rooftop or at a favorite spot, we help you choose a time with good light.

Our prices are listed openly and are the same for every couple: photography is $250 for the first hour and $100 for each additional hour, and videography is $300 for the first hour and $200 for each additional hour, with a two-hour minimum. Two hours suits most courthouse weddings with portraits, and you can book and pay online. MacroSnaps has more than 13 years of experience and is insured through State Farm.

What we capture

Key moments of a elopements & courthouse wedding

01

Arriving together

The two of you arriving at city hall or the courthouse, outfits, flowers and the nerves and excitement before your appointment.

02

Waiting and details

The bouquet, rings, shoes and the marriage license, photographed while you wait for your turn.

03

The ceremony

Vows, the ring exchange and the kiss, photographed from a position agreed with the officiant or clerk so we don't interrupt.

04

Signing the license

You, your witnesses and the officiant signing the paperwork, a short moment that many couples are glad to have on record.

05

First moments as a married couple

Walking out of the ceremony room, hugs with the few guests who came and the steps of the courthouse.

06

Portraits nearby

Relaxed portraits in a nearby park, street, garden or landmark, with natural direction rather than long posing sessions.

07

Small celebration

A toast, lunch or dinner with close family and friends afterward, if you'd like that covered too.

Planning tips

How to plan your coverage

Sort out the license and witnesses early

Check with your city or county clerk, or the relevant office in Ontario or Quebec, about appointments, license timing and whether you need to bring witnesses. Rules differ by location, so confirm them before you book a date.

Ask about photography rules

Some courthouses limit the number of guests or where a photographer can stand in the ceremony room. Ask when you book your appointment so we can plan positions and lenses in advance.

Book 2 hours for ceremony and portraits

The 2-hour minimum usually covers arrival, the ceremony, signing and 45 minutes or more of portraits nearby. Add an hour if you plan a celebratory lunch or a second portrait location.

Think about light and backup spots

Late afternoon light is flattering for portraits outdoors. Have an indoor or covered backup in mind in case of rain, and add a videographer if you want the vows recorded with sound.

FAQ

Elopements & Courthouse Weddings: frequently asked questions

Can you photograph a city hall or courthouse wedding?

Yes. We cover courthouse and city hall ceremonies and follow each office's rules on where photographers can stand. We usually add portraits at a nearby location afterward.

Can our photographer act as our witness?

Witness requirements vary by location, so check with your clerk's office first. Our photographer's priority is capturing the ceremony, so we recommend bringing your own witness where one is required.

How much does elopement photography cost?

Photography is $250 for the first hour and $100 for each additional hour, with a 2-hour minimum. Videography is $300 for the first hour and $200 for each additional hour. The rates are the same for every couple.

When will we receive our photos?

Every photo is edited and retouched, and your online gallery is usually ready in about one week. Highlight videos of 3 to 8 minutes take 2 to 4 weeks, with one re-edit included.

Can family who aren't there watch the ceremony?

Yes. We offer live streaming, which is useful for small ceremonies when parents and relatives can't attend in person.
